On Wednesday, March 7th, Milwaukee Beer Society will be exploring a variety of American Pale Ales. Prior to the explosion in popularity of IPAs, pale ales were traditionally the most well-known and popular of craft beers. Of British origin, the American craft beer revolution transformed the pale ale into a whole new style of beer where the hops play the predominant role backed by a moderate level of sweet maltiness. The clean hop presence and supporting malt result in what is often considered to be more balanced and accessible than many modern IPAs.
